By Ryan Horvath
This month, Properties Magazine is featuring the Residences at Halle. This amazing building is in the Playhouse Square theater district of Cleveland. The Residences of Halle is also one of our past projects. I had the opportunity to tour this historical building.

THE HALLE HISTORY
Over the life of the building, it has changed its name a few times. It opened as the Pope Building in February 1910. The Halle Brothers Department Store starting leasing in 1908 with limited operation. The building had 10 floors, but in 1914, they added an eleventh floor. Two floors were for retail and two floors were for corporate offices. The remaining floors were for living. From 1910 to 1982, the building operated as Halle Brothers Company’s flagship store.
The building became the Halle Building in July 1949 after a round of renovations. In the following years, the Halle Brothers Company would go through ownership changes. In 1970, they bought by Marshall Field’s. Marshall Field’s then sold them to Associated Investors Corporation in 1981. By January 1982, all the Halle Brothers Company stores had closed their doors. This included their flagship store located in the Halle Building.
Since 1982, ownership of the Halle Building changed hands a few more times. That was until 2014. When the K&D Group purchased the Halle Building in 2014, they renamed it the Residences of Halle. They have renovated the first 5 floors for retail and office space. The remaining floors are for residential with the top two reserved for penthouses. The Residences of Halle now houses 240 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. These apartments include all the amenities one could ask for.
THE CHOICE DIFFERENCE
Having worked with the K&D Group before, our Multi-Unit Division knew what they expected from us and our cabinets. After some back and forth, they decided on our Choice Select® Fremont door style. Since Fremont is one of our stocked cabinets, it made delivery of the cabinets easy. We have to say, they made the right choice. Below are some photos from one of the apartments. The crisp white and modern edges work well against the backdrop of this classic building.
THE WRAP UP
The Residences of Halle is a fantastic building. It’s located within walking distance to all things entertaining. While I was taking photos of the apartment, I could see Progressive Field a few blocks away. In learning about this building, I found out it has some Hollywood ties. You might recognize the façade of the building from The Drew Carey Show. It was the location of the fictional Winfred-Louder store. It was also used during a fight scene between Spider-Man and Sandman in Spider-Man 3.
